Thoughts Take Flight! "Sweethearts of the World" Wearable Sugar Art Global Collaboration - 10/25/2021
This could possibly be one of the sweetest projects I have ever done. When the loveliest Anna Austin wrote me and said she wanted to do a collaboration of Wearable Sugar Art by Sugar Artists around the Globe, all I could say was a resounding YES!!!!!
My Thoughts Took Flight! The fluttering rainbows that live in my Head have escaped and leapt forward as one, in a flurry of rainbow wings, pushing hooves, eager noses and fluffy curls. Now freed, they surge up and out, caught in the precise moment they Go. Each one has a Name, and if you try, you might convince her to perch on your ear and tell it to you. Which little dream will you choose, and what will she whisper to only you?
This design has been on my mind for a very long time, and now, literally. Blue curls to the side while Green arcs and tucks. Yellow leads the charge while Orange pulls up to her side. Red gracefully curvettes.
Unique enough as Individuals, as a pack they become Lucid, Lit Up, On Fire, Rainbow Neon Reality in action. Brought forth, for our mutual enjoyment, courtesy of Inspiration from Beyond, wiggling thru into the grey matter between my ears which directs my meat mittens to fashion the sugarpaste into the Art you see.
I created these to illustrate how Our Thoughts Become Reality, that indeed dreams taking flight are how reality is actually Created.
What are you Creating today?
These little ones are made from solid gumpaste over a wire structure, firmly attached to a copper crown. Each was born from a set of custom molds I made and then applied, painstakingly, in pieces, to the skeleton. Over many layers, and many dryings, and many days, each gained a little piece of personality, yet the same. Finally I used tinted & curled Rice Paper to make a froth of mane-tail that flowed down over the back of the Crown. The effect was finished simply with some dark purple gumpaste and more rice paper ribbons to flow in with my hair.
Hugest of thanks to Anna Austin and all the Sweethearts of the World who played along in this sweet game of What If??
Made from Caljava Gumpaste with Magic Colors gel tints and dusts

Yes, that is me. I usually keep my hair rolled up and away, and eschew makeup since my complexion just can't handle it. I turned 50 this year, and if you excuse sun damage I'm decently preserved 😃
The final Crown was too front-heavy to stay one without assistance!! I really loved it, but I barely got photos before the foam head it was on took a forward dive. Crunch. It was a sweet reminder that the Art we make is Ephemeral, and that really ALL of us are too.
