Storm's 6th Birthday - 2/18/20
Happy Birthday Storm! The folks over at Shield Kennels love all their dogs, where clients are family, but Storm is the special girl who started it all. They do some amazing work for some grateful people with some truly incredible dogs there. Shield Kennels, and my friend Bobbie Jo Berg, responsibly breed & start puppy training on some of the most beautiful and beloved Service Dogs in the field. Many of Bobbie's dogs go to Veterans and their families.
I respect what Bobbie is doing, as she is the most incredibly responsible breeder I have ever known.
Storm started it all, and plainly she holds a dear place in her mom's heart. We couldn't let this special birthday pass by un-celebrated! Since Storm loves her toys, I showered her with them here. These are special dog toys too - they are actually specially-made pumpkin-peanut butter dog cookies. The yogurt covering I originally tried cracked, so I had to invent a dog-safe, sugar-free 'fondant' made from gelatin, tapioca starch, and butter. Everyone is barking happy!! Recipe Below!!

The Cake is Vanilla Almond with Strawberry buttercream. The head and paws are from versatile Magic Chocolate, and the edible image on the logo is from Ink 4 Cakes

Doggy Treats
1 cup pumpkin puree (1 can)
1/2 cup peanut flour
3 large eggs
1/2 c milk
2 cups whole wheat flour, or more, as needed
DIRECTIONS:
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat; set aside.
In the bowl, mix pumpkin puree, peanut butter, eggs and milk until well combined, about 1-2 minutes. Gradually add 2 1/2 cups flour mix just until incorporated. Add additional flour as needed
Roll dough and cut with cutters, OR use oven-safe molds to shape and bake. Bake about 22 min, test centers for doneness at 200degrees. Allow to cool before giving into doggy demands for cookies
Doggy Safe Sugar Free 'Fondant'
2 Tbs Gelatin
1 Tbs Cold water
1 C Tapioca Starch
3 Tsp Butter
Put the H2O into a small bowl, sprinkle the gelatin over it, allow it to 'bloom'. Microwave the gelatin in short bursts until clear and liquid. Add melted butter. Stir with a fork. In another bowl, heap the Tapioca Starch, make a little well in the center. Pour the liquid in, combine, knead. Tint while warm, and best used while warm as well. Roll out a bit, (between plastic wrap if necessary), lay over the top of your doggy cookie. It wont stick. So, pop it into the microwave for a few SECONDS. The Dogg-Fondant will turn shiny, and start to melt over the cookie. Pull it out, smooth it into details, around edges. I then popped the covered cookie BACK into the mold, pressed it in, allowed the mold to do the work for me.
