Stonehenge Solstice, "UK vs. USA" Cake International collaboration - 7/3/2021 -
Here it is! my newest cake design, Solstice at Stonehenge! I was invited to take part in a sugar art collaboration called "UK vs USA". Artists were invited to render something iconic from the 'other side'! I chose Stonehenge, as a hypersigil of sorts, because I have always wanted to do a tour of sarcen stones in the UK. and not just Stonehenge, Stonehenge at the Dawn of the Summer Solstice. The Stars in the sky behind the piece are those you would see, from the Circle, framed by certain precise stones, The Sun rising in Cancer.
The English Heritage site has an amazing Stonehenge Virtual Tour which was not only fascinating but incredibly helpful!! Highly Recommended for a lark (https://www.english-heritage.org.uk/visit/places/stonehenge/history-and-stories/stonehenge360/ )
The Stones are solid Magic Chocolate modeling chocolate, and the henge under them (hill) is Chocolate cake with Almond Buttercream. I airbrushed the backdrop with Magic colours airbrush tints. the Stars are just dots of royal icing, applied with reference. There is a gap between the backdrop and the half-sphere cake, where the electric light is concealed.
I really had such fun doing this piece! Look out for another post with more photos, and some work-in-progress shots! Check Facebook for the full "UK vs USA Cake International" collaboration!
