Niffler Likes Donuts and Lace, Birthday Mischief Managed, Fantastic Beasts v2 - 11/15/18 - This little guy was made for the third installment of the "Birthday Mischief Managed" Collaboration.
My vision was from the moment at the end of the first "Fantastic Beasts" movie, when Niffler spotted the Occamy shells Newt Scamander gave to Jacob Kowalski (at the end of "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them"). At that pooint Niffler slipped from the case once more. His slinky escape went unnoticed by Newt, and before he knew it, Niffler was quite alone, in the busy streets of America.
Lonely scared Niffler followed Jacob home, and watched from hiding as he built his new bakery. One day Niffler was astonished to see Jacob take one of his donuts and shape the dough into, well, a Niffler!! Niffler couldn't believe his eyes, so naturally he had to swipe one off the tray after they came out of the oven - he even burned his paw in the process! Once he had it, it didn't take long for him to develop a taste for them. Jacob seemed blind to the fact that nearly every tray was short one treat!
For a while, Life was Sweet, and Niffler discovered that there were treasures that did not sparkle. The day that Queenie walked into the bakery, Niffler realized that silky pink things were also yummy, and lightened her by one rosy silky lacy scarf before she could notice. Now Niffler, from his cozy bed with sugary treat in hand, has a renewed perspective on the Value of Things. Soft, silky and tasty treasures fill the soul just as well, even better, than bling, glam, and glitter. Far warmer too!
His little face, grabby-grubby hands, and pinky feet are made from Magic Chocolate, and his fur is Caljava fondant. The Lace and Coins are made from flexible chocolate per Kimberly Chapman's recipe, dusted/misted with Magic Colours Metallic dusts and airbrush paint. I LOVE the pink metallic airbrush tint - so silky!!!
And before my numismatics begin to write me, YES, I'm aware these coins are all anachronisms, post-1970, but they were the only coins I could get my hands on to create a mold from!
Be sure to check out the WHOLE collaboration and all of the incredible Beasts www.facebook.com/birthdaymischiefmanaged

WORK in PROGRESS
How about that Lace?? Here is where I spread the Flexible Chocolate into the lace mold |
|
Here I pull the Edible Lace from the mold, upside down and backwards |
|
All the coins are also made from Flexible Chocolate, cast in gelatin molds made from real coins. Watch as I dust them, and they go from rubbery to coin-shiny |

Fake Cake Funeral, v2, "Niffler"
Okay, so now I'm really getting into these Fake Cake Funerals. Every half-crumbling, admittedly-still pretty sugar work cake dummy I dump makes me feel a little lighter, happier, ready to make new artworks. These Artworks are very lovely, but each would require hours of repair. Hours, and space, I'd far rather out into new Art. So, Farewell it has to be. And things with faces get Funerals, before they go into the trash Today up for Recognition, Thanks, and Farewells to The Niffler Fake Cake. Huge thanks to Magic Chocolate, Magic Colours and Caljava for making this time with this Art possible. Huge Hugs to all of you
