inksPIRATE, Threadcakes 2015 - 11/30/15 - If you don't know Threadcakes, let me introduce you. Threadcakes was a Online Cake Competition, one of the very first. They hinged upon the Tshirt company, Threadless. Threadless is still going VERY strong, even amidst the flooding of recent years of print-upon demand companies. Threadless is the Original.
To participate in Threadcakes you needed to choose a Design from the catalog and recreate it, in Cake, to the best of your abilities. You were ti use REAL CAKE, and document the creation process so that it could be demonstrated beyond a doubt. Ypu were then required, by the rules, to Eat Your Cake, and photograph it as part of Submitted Materials. For those unfamiliar with this competition, lets just say that it was considered quite the X Games of Cake at the time, and to place was a huge honor. I'd love to tell you to go Check It Out, but sadly the links are 404. I guess you will have to be happy (for now) with the video I made at the time, posted below, for you.
Circa 2015
I give you inksPIRATE, my Threadcakes entry. Threadcaks is an online cake competition where Cake Artists Choose a Threadless T-shirt design, and create it in cake. I chose a ink drawing called "inksPIRATE", by Brian Nur Afandi. This design was *so* challenging, but very fulfilling in the end. My cake PLACED 4th in the competition, versus some amazing entries. Honored!
"We all know the InksPirate. It seeps out of our deepest subconcious, wraps inky tentacles of doubt, fear and sadness around the rainbow sails of our Ship of Dreams, which would take you anywhere your heart wishes to go. The Darkness slowly drains the Color and Thrill out of Life, but *only* if we let it be stolen. Dreams and Thrills in our sails are driving the power to overcome anything that tries to restrain the Ship"
