Happy Birthday Have A Gay Day, 3/4/2022
Ten Years ago a great guy started a page where folks could come together, feel supported, and show their Rainbows without fear. We came to know Have A Gay Day as an online place to not only make a difference, but to see how others were as well. It always made me feel I wasn't quite alone, and plainly I'm not as the community has grown to not only an online place with 1.3 Million Followers, but an active charity in Dayton Ohio who offers a rainbow of physical support services to the LGTBQ community.
How does this lead to Cake? Well, way back in 2012 they reposted my infamous Rainbow Pegacorn Mama and Baby Cake on their page while they were on their legendary viral gallop without watermarks. I saw it and wrote them immediately, as was my routine. Unlike many of the 9GAG-like 'shares', HGD *immediately* edited their post to include my information. It may have been a small thing, but it made a world of difference.
This is what Have A Gay Day has come to mean to me, over the years. Small things that are Huge
So, when I heard they were turning 10, and were in a new headquarters doing amazing things, well I really wanted to Make Them A Cake. So I reached out.
After some discussion, we realized we both wanted to try Shipping them a Cake!! Yes, this cake was SHIPPED, via FedEx overnight, all 33lbs of them. I designed it with this in mind, but there are still no inedible supports in anything. The only real support was from Magic Chocolate, on the Pegacorn. Otherwise, just allowed to freeze hard, with buttercream & Fondant, and wrapped tight with a boatload of plastic wrap as only a former shipping clerk could. I made a custom container, with nesting boxes, handholds, and base cushions. It arrived intact, missing a few curls it is true, but otherwise beautiful!
I am awaiting final cutting pictures, the cake is currently chilling in its box at HGB HQ. I can hardly wait!
This was fun! All these years I've been telling folks I can't do this, well, I guess I CAN ship a cake!!!!
Proof of Concept Accomplished...
Happy Birthday Have A Gay Day! Keep up the sweet work. Huge hugs to all!!!
Made with infinitely useful & tasty Magic Chocolate modeling Chocolate, brilliant Magic Colours, and Caljava Fondx

Did I say I Shipped this Cake? Sure did, how about some photos of how this beast was packed and shipped via FedEx Overnight. I started with two heavy reinforced flour boxes that just happened to be exactly the right size. I cut one with a fall-down flap, so the cake slid right in. With the top flaps straight up it was also just the right height. I used salvaged cardboard corners from our last washing machine box to hold the top up. Then I wrapped the entire cake, which was frozen solid, in layers and layers of plastic wrap that gently secure the entire piece, one gentle wrap at a time. The last few were tighter, and over places that could take it, like shoulders and such. Then I cut hand holds into the box, covered from the inside with foam to keep the cold in. See, they can't guarantee "Up" with Fed Ex, so I decided to make it more convenient for the handlers! Once everybody was in, the second box slid down over the first, and copious amounts of duct tape secured the entire box shut. label on, dropped at FedEx hub ready to fly...
So YES, I guess I CAN ship that cake!!!
