Boulder TEC Dragster - 5/20/2021 -
Do you love muscle cars? The scent of burning rubber and nitrous? How about Shop Class? Auto Repair or perhaps Auto Body? Maybe you just love hanging out in the garage. I totally get it. In fact, my own offspring is currently enrolled in the Auto Collision Repair program at their school! Naturally they are a Natural, and when they asked me for a cake for the class, how could I, raised as a motorhead, say no? And of course they have a specific car in mind, a customized 1971 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme, their very own special Dragster that they race every year at Bandimere Speedway. For a body shop class. No pressure.
All my cake friends are groaning - the Car cake is almost as dreaded as the Minecraft Cake. Add to the suspense some unavoidable circumstances that shortened my build from a week to 48 hours! Yes, I should have just said so sorry, no cake.
But I gave my word, and a Car Cake They Would have!!!! So many more details I wanted to take more time with.
Why do artists look at stuff and say "not my best work"? Yeah, well, that. The kids adored it, and had a very special day playing with it I am told.
Some of them might not have graduated without this program, I wanted to be sure they, and their teachers, felt so very Celebrated.
I could not have done this without Magic Chocolate. The panels were made flat, and applied hardened to hold up the purple Caljava Fondx Fondant I used as a top coat to hold the metallic Magic Colours paints. I love the detail these folks used on the front of this Olds! No inedible supports, but yes, the LED headlights are not edible. I was told this was a source of amusement.
Next year, Car Cakes to amaze...
