Daughters of the Rainbow, 2/25/17
In 1906, the Land of Oz was in its heydey. A hundred years later L. Frank Baum would still be inspiring children across the globe. Oz was one of my favorite childhood haunts, and is still a huge influence to my Artistic Vision. I have always admired the Beauty of Diversity in Feminine Faces, and Celebration of the Rainbow of Race is at the root of my interpretation here. We are all Daughters of the Rainbow, lovely in flowing Mauve Decade lace and swirls.
This piece was inspired by his 5th book, “Road to Oz”, where Dorothy first meets Polychrome, the Rainbow’s Daughter. 'Poly' makes frequent reference to her Rainbow and Cloud Sisters, which one can see in the clouds here.
The Daughters are all Caljava's fantastic gumpaste, attached to an internal wire food-safed structure. The dresses are 100% brilliant #Fondx fondant. The Rainbow Lace is Kim Chapman's amazing Flexible Chocolate Recipe, available on her blog Eat The evidence. The Rainbow Lace and Daughters' diverse skintones were tinted with vibrant Magic Colours Pro Gel Colours as was the colorful Lace - attached to their gowns with Magic Colour's amazing Edible Glue. Three threaded rods support the real cake inside the middle section of this art, limited to minimize freight charges, but still the rules-required 100 servings. It traveled to Austin via UPS Freight, in a custom built crate weighing over 150lbs.
I hope you all love them as much as I do. It was a Labour of Love and Sugar
This piece of Art was lovingly Created for the Showcake Division of the That Takes the Cake Art Show in #Austin Texas in 2017. Huge thanks to Kyla , Jennifer, and all you wonderful Capital Confectioners Volunteers without whom this show would not be possible. Stay Sweet y'all!!

Or, just Buy Me A Coffee
This one project took me over 40 hours to bring to you here, today, first conceived, designed and sculpted in reality, then filmed, edited, finally uploaded, served up as a Slice. If you have read this far, it is my hope that you have enjoyed your time here. I know it seems everyone has their hands out for money, but perhaps consider it Fair Return, for Value Given in advance. Know every dollar builds the rainbow energy and gratitude I harness in Creating Art <3 |
