Cirque du Soleil Quidam - 11/9/12 - WOW! I love the Cirque. All other arguments aside, the Artists they employ know how to Create Sensation. Collaboration between mediums is the purest conductor of Spark, the delight we all love in the media we Thrill to. Cirque du Soleil has made a icon of itself in this, braiding vivid symbology into storylines with the tools of rainbow costumery, epic set work that is also a living moving partner in the bodywork of the corporeal Artists who Dance upon it.
My first Cirque Show inspired me to reach out to the Quidam troupe when they were here in Denver. To my delight they told me they LOVED cake. We reached a sweet agreement, and when I brought it to them before the show the FUN began. I love taking Artists Cakes, because they GET IT. We all synergized with each other, and parted in a warm creative fog. Many took slices for AFTER the show, which was still, to this day, one of the best Cirques I've seen.
These artists work in an amazing unit to defy gravity and belief! The entire show is absolutely packed with inspiration, and although I tried to pay tribute them all, it simply wasn't possible. Main Characters like Zoe, Ringmaster John, and Boom Boom are represented, but also the unbelievably athletic acrobats who seem to have wings.
I also pay homage to the talented technicians whose baby, the Téléphérique, I recreated out of pure sugar. Thats the silver thing on top, the framework from which the acrobats fly, tethered from above. My version was made from 100% sugarwork. In fact, no supports were used in any decoration. I used cardboard forms to allow tiny bits of sugar to dry, and then be glued into place to dry again. It took HOURS to make!! I think someone took it away to look at/play with, it disappeared during the cutting. Sugar windows had tiny lightbulbs beneath, and this Creation was filled with my Golden Almond Vanilla Pound Cake, Strawberry filling alternated with Tropical filling, covered with Swiss Meringue Buttercream.
They LOVED it! YAY! Big Thanks out to Ms. Georgia and Ms Jessica for thier time! Jessica says: "OH MY GOSH!!! This cake is hands down the BEST QUIDAM cake EVER! The word is still buzzing in the arena today :-) Thank you so much for All the hard work. I took the liberty to share your photo album on the Quidam FB page too – it’s getting a lot of attention. Glad you enjoyed the show as much as we enjoyed the cake". And, the show was unreal, touching, thrilling - truly not to be missed!
