Caddyshack Gopher Groom - 11/11/11 - This piece was to please a groom who loves golf, and probably not gophers! Mr. Gopher has popped right out of the green - ready to GET HITCHED! Vanilla cake filled with chocolate ganache. Hat, flowers, golf ball, fur and garter belt all made of hardened gumpaste. Hand-carved, and each fringe of fur was cut and painted by hand. Graham-cracker mixture "sand" covers the vanilla cake on the base.
I also made the White Roses and Navy Gerbera Daisies for the bride to put on her round cake as well. Dark Paste was a new challenge I found very interesting.
Revised 2/2/2021 - Happy Groundhog Day! I think a Anniversary Cake Followup is in order for 11/11/2021

VISED 2/2/2021 - Happy Groundhog Day!!! Whew, perfect day for a Flashback to one of my very first sculpted cakes. I still love this one. It was meant as a gag grooms cake for an avid golfer, literally the Caddyshack Gopher as a groom. Groundhog, Gopher, whos counting, right? LMAO
Good day for other types of circle-musings too...
This cake is from way back in 2011. This was from a time when everybody was cheering me towards all the "money I could make" on round traditional wedding cakes. Silly me, even then all I wanted to do was sculpt silly groomsman groundhog gophers, resplendent with all the necessary details to Tell The Story, hopefully resulting in giggles, cackles, guffaws.
Interaction, connection and memories. It's what we really all want, I realized.
And, almost 10 years later, here I am, still lip-curling over rounds and sculpting crazy critters. Honestly, between us, rounds (traditional shapes) are wonderful but they give me terrible anxiety. Too many smooth lines. Many of you may not know that traditionally, in older circles where royal icing and buttercream-only reigns supreme, "character novelty" cakes are the strictly relegated to immature, childish events like Birthday Parties. Think star tip icing, craft-store, shaped-pan Snoopy cake.
This isn't your Grandma's cake anymore though. This is supercomputer leaps of Sugar Art, now capable to carrying all sorts of bandwidth. Kind of like how some movies couldn't be made because the required digital effects simply weren't invented yet. Stories told with old tech naturally look cheesy. Now, many old tales can be told with effects that make them heartstopping (LOTR, Marvel, Jurassic Park)
I'm thinking a 10 Year Anniversary Followup Cake might be in order this this November. or ??

Or, just Buy Me A Coffee
This one project took me over 40 hours to bring to you here, today, first conceived, designed and sculpted in reality, then filmed, edited, finally uploaded, served up as a Slice. If you have read this far, it is my hope that you have enjoyed your time here. I know it seems everyone has their hands out for money, but perhaps consider it Fair Return, for Value Given in advance. Know every dollar builds the rainbow energy and gratitude I harness in Creating Art <3 |
