Blues Traveler on 4th of July at Red Rocks Amphitheater - 7/4/12 I LOVE BLUES TRAVELER! Every year I do my best to come see them play at Red Rocks Amphitheater for the 4th of July. This year I got to take them a cake!!! They LOVED it, and what great guys...they all give awesome hugs :-)
For those of you unfamiliar with the Red Rocks Amphitheater, this was a recreation of the stage layout Blues Traveler and countless others have played on for decades. It was also their 25th such show at Red Rocks!!! The Black Cat Jam logo and the "25" are both cut from hardened sugar paste and painted. One of the amazing things about 4th at Red Rocks is that it is on the very western edge of Denver, slightly above, so you can see fireworks from displays all across the city, from Loveland at the north all the way down to Parker at the south. Here I made them from splooshes of hot sugar, with streaks of food color pulled with a toothpick. So much learned on this cake!!
Vanilla cake filled with chocolate ganache and caramel sauce. Super-Yum I daresay! Thank you again gentlemen, you inspire me! And special thanks to Gina who was so incredibly generous with her time. This cake was 100% edible...most decorated cakes (especially those 'classic' buttercream wedding cakes) use cardboard, straws, toothpicks and other food-safe non-edibles for support. Most my cakes make use of these in some way, but this one does not! No inedible supports were used - anywhere in the cake.
