Ancient Stone Gingerbread 12-23-2020 -
"This was a fabulous project!! Thanks SO much to Jean Rettmer Schapowal Cakes With Character for yet another killer collab. I felt this project was very symbolic of 2020 in general, from start to finish. We started easy enough, the assumption of a standard product, admittedly fragile, but nevertheless made available worldwide, cross-state, upon the click of a button. But THEN. Everything crumbled. Literally. Suddenly systems designed to pamper and amuse were stressed beyond capacity. Cracks began to appear. So, when my package arrived, shipped by the Collab, it was understandably broken, despite obvious best efforts on the part of everyone involved. I refused another kit, for all sorts of thrifty/scarcity reasons I will chew on later, but also because when I opened the package I saw this End Result that you see, in my head, instantly. I saw this Ancient Stone, grooved and spiraled, cracked and ice-covered, yet still throwing an inexplicable blinding light through those very same cracks. The last year has shaken our most ancient stones, but has also revealed a greater light within us all. Wishing you a Safe Holiday full of Hope and Warmth.

This Piece was part of a Collaborative Effort that stretched around the Globe. It is an excellent example of how Artists Need Not Compete, because we are all so different. If you give us a the same base supplies and framework concept to a group of Artists, we will all give you a Different Result. It's really quite amazing, and a stark reminder why it is so important to be true to our own vision instead of trying to fit a pre- conceived notion of Perfection
